Imagine. You have read about it for a while. You feel that something wants to get moving. But you also have questions. What exactly happens? Is it safe? And how do you prepare?

Those questions are good. They are part of it. I am Kevin Lorenzini, a ceremony leader in Nuenen and Eindhoven. In this piece I will tell you what a Kambo ceremony is, how it goes, and how you prepare. Honest and without promises.

What is a Kambo ceremony?

Kambo is the secretion of the giant leaf frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor) from the Amazon. Indigenous peoples have traditionally used it in ceremonies.

A Kambo ceremony is intense and physical. Many people experience it as a deep cleansing, in their body and energetically. The intensity varies per person.

The frog remains intact. It is gently held. Its secretion is collected on a stick and then it is released into its own environment. The Huni Kuin see the frog as sacred.

What Kambo is not

Kambo is not a quick solution. It is not therapy and not a medical treatment. You are not repaired. You are guided to listen to yourself again. You remain the owner of your own process.

Why always an intake and screening?

Kambo is powerful. It does not suit everyone at every moment. That is why at Purity Healing you always start with an intake and screening. Without an intake, participation is not possible.

In the intake I look at your health, your intention, and whether this is the right moment. You fill out a secure form. I read it myself. Does Kambo not suit your situation after the intake? Then I will say that honestly, and you will get your deposit back in full.

Who is Kambo not suitable for?

Kambo is not suitable for:

  • pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • serious heart or vascular problems
  • unstable high blood pressure
  • active psychiatric conditions, such as psychosis, schizophrenia, or a severe bipolar disorder
  • epilepsy
  • the use of antidepressants or MAO inhibitors without consulting your doctor
  • being younger than 18 years old

Do you use medication? Then always consult your doctor first. Report everything in the intake. Safety comes first.

How to prepare for a Kambo ceremony

Kambo requires conscious preparation. The diet and the intake are conditions. The diet is not deviated from.

Your intention

Do not go into the ceremony "just like that". Go with a direction. What do I want to let go of? What may be seen? What do I long for clarity about?

Your intention is not a wish list. It is a compass. Write it down. Take it with you.

The Kambo diet: what do you eat and not eat?

  • Avoid meat and dairy, sugar and caffeine, and drugs at least a few days beforehand.
  • You stop alcohol a week before.
  • You will receive the full diet after your registration.

Peace in your mind

Kambo also affects your inner world. Avoid stress and busyness in the days beforehand. Limit social stimuli. Take rest moments. Walking in nature, breathing, and silence help.

What do you take with you?

  • Loose, light clothing, preferably white or light. Layers are ideal, because you can feel heat or cold.
  • Warm socks.
  • A small object with meaning, a photo, or your intention on paper.
  • No perfume or perfumed products.

The day of the ceremony

You come sober. At least 4 hours, preferably 8 to 12 hours. On the morning itself you only drink water. I will tell you how much.

The ceremony goes step by step. With an opening, attention to your intention, and clear boundaries. Small points are placed on your skin. They feel like a short, intense heat.

Then the body gets moving. Your heart beats faster. You can become nauseous, sweat, and vomit. Your face can temporarily swell. In tradition, that is called "kissed by the frog". Not everyone experiences it the same.

The ceremony itself lasts on average 3 to 5 hours. Plan for half a day, with arrival, preparation, and debriefing. Plan nothing else after that.

Many people say afterwards: it was intense, and it was worth it.

After the ceremony

Rest. As much as possible.

  • Eat light: soup, fruit, vegetables.
  • Drink enough water.
  • No alcohol, no busyness, few screens.
  • Write down what comes up. Move gently in nature.

You can always send me a message. Also in the days after.
