Story
Yuxibu rapé: strength that carries
Strength: 5 out of 7. Character: discovery, grounding, ancestral.
There is strength that pushes. And there is strength that carries. Yuxibu is about the latter.
Yuxibu rapé is a Limited Special from the Huni Kuin, the largest indigenous people of the state of Acre in the Brazilian Amazon. It is a one-off composition, outside the standard recipes. When it's gone, it's gone. This blend will not return.
What does Yuxibu mean?
Yuxibu means "spirits of the forest". In the stories of the Huni Kuin, the forest is full of life that you do not always see. Yuxibu is the name for those forces.
At Purity Healing, there is a fixed phrase that goes with it: Yuxibu no comando. The higher power takes the lead. You sit down, you set your intention, and then you let go. You do not need to direct it.
Rapé is pronounced as "ha-pé". That is why you also see the spelling hapé, and sometimes rapeh. It is a fine plant powder that the Huni Kuin traditionally use in ceremony and meditation.
Not to be confused with other Yuxibu rapé
You will find more rapé online with the name Yuxibu. These often have a completely different composition. Our Yuxibu is its own, one-off blend of three plants.
What is Yuxibu rapé made of?
Yuxibu consists of three plants. Each with its own image.
Tsunu
The base. Ash of the bark and branches of the Tsunu tree (Platycyamus regnellii). A tree that is as common in Acre as the oak is to us. Tsunu means ash. As an image: the old may go.
Mulateiro (pau mulato)
The tree that sheds its bark every year (Calycophyllum spruceanum). Beneath it, a smooth, new trunk appears. An image of renewal.
Caapi
A vine from the Amazon region. The third plant in this blend.
Handmade
Everything is done by hand. No machines. It is dried, pounded, and sifted. The sun does the rest. During the work, songs and prayers are offered.
Rapé that you see elsewhere is often coarser and grainier. Our Yuxibu is super fine, almost powdery. That is how you can see how much handwork is in it. And because it is so fine, you need less of it.
Fresh from Acre, straight in the bottle
Almost every month a new shipment arrives, in small batches. Kevin does the final check. The rapé goes directly into a dark bottle that blocks uv-light. This way, the prayers and songs remain trapped in the bottle. Open the bottle, and you immediately smell how fresh it is.
Kevin has known the Huni Kuin for about eight years. He has daily contact with a Huni Kuin village in Acre, via WhatsApp and video calls. From them he learns how rapé is made and how to recognize the plants. The rapé comes directly from them, without intermediaries. Going to the village is at the top of his list.
The Huni Kuin are also called Kaxinawá. They themselves choose Huni Kuin, "the True People". So do we.
"They get the price they ask. I never haggle. And besides, a part of the proceeds goes back to the village." — Kevin
How do people experience Yuxibu?
Imagine: you have had an intense period. Done a lot, carried a lot. You do not want any more stimuli. You want ground under your feet.
Many people then experience Yuxibu as solid and clearing. What felt heavy may go. After that, something comes back: a feeling of renewal, like the Mulateiro tree lets go of its old bark.
Yuxibu is used to ground. Your strength descends from your head to your body. You direct less with your thinking and stand more in yourself. Some feel a clear boundary around them. This way they can work with intensity without losing themselves.
The experience often unfolds in layers. What is first clearing can deepen into peace and direction. Many people describe Yuxibu not as explosive, but as carrying. Steadfast. Grounded. Present.
How many people experience Yuxibu
- Clearing what feels heavy, and making room for something new
- Grounding: your strength in your body instead of in your head
- A clear boundary around you
- Direction and coherence, layer by layer
This is experience, not a promise. Everyone experiences rapé differently.
Who is Yuxibu rapé for?
Yuxibu is 5 out of 7. It is a powerful blend. That is why it is intended for those who already have experience with rapé.
You are already experienced
You know your own reaction to rapé. You can carry intensity and give it a place. Then Yuxibu is a blend to discover, as long as it is available.
You work ceremonially
For ceremonial work around strength, renewal, and direction. Ceremonial leaders use it to stand firm. The blend does not take over the ceremony.
You are just starting with rapé
Then Yuxibu is not yet for you. Start with Tsunu, one of the three plants in this blend. Rosa and Murici are also a good start, each with its own character.

When you have carried a lot and want to land again in your own strength.
In ceremonial work
When you want to stand firm, with a clear intention, and then want to let go.
When you have time
Take space for silence afterwards. Let the experience unfold without directing.
Using Yuxibu rapé
Rapé is something you work with, not something you just take. Start consciously. With Yuxibu you start with a very small amount.
- Amount: start with as much as a pea per nostril. With Yuxibu preferably even less. Build up slowly, over several moments.
- How: you give yourself rapé with a kuripe, a V-shaped pipe. First breathe out completely.
- Order: in tradition you start on the left (letting go) and then on the right (receiving).
- Afterwards: close your eyes, breathe through your mouth and sit still for a while. Let what comes come.
You can read more about the technique in "Using rapé safely".
