Story

You know rapé. Now you want more.

You have found your first rapé. Perhaps Tsunu, perhaps Rosa. You know what it feels like to land. And you feel curious: what else is there?

This rapé sample set is your next step. Five varieties, 2 grams each, all five with their own story. Four are at strength 5 out of 7. Samaúma is at 6. Stronger than the beginners set, and with more depth.

This way you can explore what suits you before choosing a whole bottle.

What is in this rapé sample set?

7 Eva's – strength 5 out of 7

A blend of Tsunu, Cumaru, Murú, Nissaral, Buna Tura, Caneleiro and Parika, with three types of ash. Kevin calls it a very strong blend. On the label: deeply grounding, mystical astral, elemental. Many people experience 7 Eva's as broad and harmonious, as if all the plants together form one whole.

Caneleiro – strength 5 out of 7

Tsunu as a base, with the ash of the Canela de Velho tree. That tree is named after cinnamon, but is not a cinnamon tree. On the label: deeply grounding, balance, strength. Many people choose Caneleiro when they are dealing with old patterns.

Katsarau – strength 5 out of 7

Made from the Katsaral plant, which resembles the Tsunu. On the label: depth, concentration, serenity. Many people use Katsarau to focus their attention and go deeper into silence.

Mulateiro – strength 5 out of 7

The ash of the tree that sheds its bark every year (Calycophyllum spruceanum). On the label: deeply grounding, resilience, vitality. An image of renewal: the old falls away, the new emerges.

Samaúma – strength 6 out of 7

"The queen of the jungle", also known as the Mother of the Forest. On the label: majesty, sovereignty, transcendence. Samaúma stands in tradition for heaven and earth. Through the tree, the ancestors can flow back to the earth. Many people experience it as a blend that gives overview. The strongest of the five.

This is experience, not a promise. Everyone experiences rapé differently.

The same rapé as in our bottles

A sample set is not a leftover batch for us. In the bags is the same fresh, superfine rapé as in the bottles of 7.7 and 15 grams.

Everything is handmade by the Huni Kuin in Acre, Brazil. No machines. It is dried, pounded and sifted. The sun does the rest. During the work, they sing and pray.

Rapé that you see elsewhere is often a bit coarser and grainier. Our rapé is superfine, almost powdery. That is how you can see how much handwork is in it. And because it is so fine, you need less of it.

Fresh from Acre

Almost every month a new shipment arrives, in small batches. Kevin does the final check.

Kevin has known the Huni Kuin for about eight years. He has daily contact with a Huni Kuin village in Acre, via WhatsApp and video calls. The rapé comes directly from them, without middlemen. Going to the village is at the top of his list.

The Huni Kuin are also called Kaxinawá. They themselves choose Huni Kuin, "the True People". So do we.

"They get the price they ask. I never haggle. And besides that, a part of the proceeds goes back to the village." — Kevin

This is how you use the sample set

Rapé is something you work with, not something you just take. Start consciously. Use one variety per moment, depending on your intention. This way you really get to know each variety.

Save Samaúma for last. It is the strongest of the five. Write down briefly after each moment what you noticed. This way you see which variety suits you.

  • Quantity: start with about the size of a pea per nostril. Build up slowly, over multiple moments.
  • How: you give yourself rapé with a kuripe, a V-shaped applicator. First breathe out completely.
  • Order: in tradition you start on the left (letting go) and then on the right (receiving).
  • Afterwards: eyes closed, breathe through your mouth and sit still for a while. Let what comes, come.

Frequently asked questions about the rapé sample set

What is in Five Rapéh's?

Five varieties of Huni Kuin rapé of 2 grams each: 7 Eva's, Caneleiro, Katsarau and Mulateiro (all four 5 out of 7) and Samaúma (6 out of 7).

Is this set suitable for beginners?

Better not as your very first rapé. Five Rapéh's is intended for those who already know rapé. Just starting? Then choose Four Rapéh's, with Rosa, Cacau, Tsunu and Murici.

Is it the same rapé as in the bottles?

Yes. The same fresh, superfine rapé, handmade by the Huni Kuin. Only the quantity is smaller.

What is the difference between Caneleiro and Katsarau?

Both have a connection with Tsunu. Caneleiro has Tsunu as a base, with the ash of Canela de Velho. Katsarau is made from the Katsaral plant, which resembles the Tsunu. On the label of Caneleiro it says balance and strength. For Katsarau: depth, concentration, serenity.

Can I choose the varieties myself?

No, the sets are fixed. Do you want all nine varieties from Four and Five? Then choose Nine Rapéh's.

Do I need a kuripe?

Yes. A kuripe is a V-shaped applicator with which you give yourself rapé. Don't have one yet? Send Kevin a message, then he can think along with you.
