Story
Nine varieties. One journey of discovery.
Imagine nine small boxes on the table in front of you. Each containing a different tree, a different plant, a different story from the Acre forest. You open one. You smell how fresh it is. And you know: you will take your time with this one over the coming days.
That is this rapé sample set. Nine varieties of Huni Kuin rapé, each weighing 2 grams. From Rosa, the gentlest in our collection, to Samaúma, the queen of the jungle. This way you can experience the full range and find your favorite.
Nine Rapéh's is exactly Four Rapéh's and Five Rapéh's together, in one package. Separately, those two sets cost €60.50. Nine costs €44.
What is in this rapé sample set?
Below are the nine varieties, from gentle to powerful. With the strength and the words of the label. Click on a name to read about the full variety.
To get started
- Rosa – 3 out of 7. Dried rose petals and flowers from the tradition. Harmonizing, feminine.
- Cacau – 4 out of 7. With wild cacao. Warmth, embrace, root and heart.
- Tsunu – 5 out of 7. Ash from the Tsunu tree. Deeply grounding, energetic, balancing.
- Murici – 5 out of 7. Insight, centering, radiance.
To go further
- Katsarau – 5 out of 7. From the Katsaral plant, which resembles the Tsunu. Depth, concentration, serenity.
- Caneleiro – 5 out of 7. Tsunu with the ash of Canela de Velho. Deeply grounding, balance, strength.
- Mulateiro – 5 out of 7. The tree that sheds its bark. Deeply grounding, resilience, vitality.
- 7 Eva's – 5 out of 7. Seven plants and three types of ash in one blend. Deeply grounding, mystically astral, elemental.
- Samaúma – 6 out of 7. The queen of the jungle. Majesty, sovereignty, transcendence.
Rosa, Tsunu and Murici are all good starting points, each with its own character. The varieties under "To go further" are for when you already know rapé a little.
The same rapé as in our bottles
For us, a sample set is not a leftover batch. The bags contain the same fresh, superfine rapé as the 7.7 and 15-gram bottles.
Everything is handmade by the Huni Kuin in Acre, Brazil. No machines. It is dried, pounded and sifted. The sun does the rest. During the work, they sing and pray.
Rapé you see elsewhere is often coarser and grainier. Our rapé is superfine, almost powdery. That is how you can see how much handwork goes into it. And because it is so fine, you need less of it.
Fresh from Acre
Almost every month a new shipment arrives, in small batches. Kevin does the final inspection.
Kevin has known the Huni Kuin for about eight years. He is in daily contact with a Huni Kuin village in Acre, via WhatsApp and video calls. The rapé comes directly from them, without any middleman. Going to the village is at the top of his list.
The Huni Kuin are also known as the Kaxinawá. They themselves choose the name Huni Kuin, "the True People". So do we.
"They get the price they ask. I never haggle. And besides, a portion of the proceeds goes back to the village." — Kevin

How to use the sample set
Rapé is something you work with, not something you just take. Start consciously. Use one variety at a time, depending on your intention. Take your time. You do not learn nine varieties in a week.
A logical order: start with the lowest strength and work your way up slowly. So Rosa first, Samaúma last. After each session, briefly write down what you noticed. This way you will naturally see which variety suits you.
- Quantity: start with about the size of a pea in each nostril. Build up slowly, over several sessions.
- How: you administer rapé to yourself with a kuripe, a V-shaped applicator. First, exhale completely.
- Order: in the tradition, you start on the left (letting go) and then on the right (receiving).
- After that: close your eyes, breathe through your mouth and sit still for a while. Let what comes, come.
You can read more about the technique in "Using rapé safely".
