Sananga eye drops: as strong as in the ceremony

This is no mild introduction. These are Sananga eye drops just like the Huni Kuin use deep in the Amazon. Raw, direct, and complete.

Every drop is made from fresh root. No dilution. What you get is what the forest gives.

You feel the drop. You wait. And then comes the fire. It burns, and the tears flow. Those who keep breathing notice what comes next: silence.

What is Sananga?

Sananga is an eye drop from the Amazon. It is made from the root of a shrub from the genus Tabernaemontana. This shrub grows wild in the rainforest. It does not ask for attention. But those who know it know what it is worth.

The Huni Kuin call Sananga shane tsamaite. In their tradition, Sananga is one of the plants of the forest, alongside rapé and Kambo. You drop it into both eyes. It burns briefly and intensely, and tears flow.

Sananga and panema

Traditionally, hunters in the Amazon use Sananga before entering the forest. In the tradition, there is an old term for this: panema. Panema is hunting bad luck. Or a sluggishness in which nothing works out anymore and you are not in your strength. Sananga is traditionally used when that panema is present.

Sananga is also used around ceremonies, to prepare for or conclude them.

How we make our Sananga

Much Sananga is made from dried powder. We work differently. Kevin imports the fresh root himself, directly from Brazil. There is no middleman. No drying station. No long storage in a warehouse.

The root arrives here and is processed here: in the Netherlands, on a small scale, with all the attention this plant deserves.

One strength: the jungle strength

No mild, medium, or strong. You do not have to wonder what you need. There is one strength: the ceremonial version, as it is used in the tradition of the Huni Kuin.

Only root and water

Every batch is fresh. No mass production. Prepared under sterile conditions, filtered several times and filled without preservatives. Our Sananga contains only root extract and water. No alcohol, no salt. Fresh and honest.

Why fresh root?

The substances in the root bark are sensitive to heat, air, and long storage. With fresh root, they remain as intact as possible. Dried powder, no matter how finely ground, has already gone through a drying and storage process. That is why we choose fresh.

"This is not a product I found in an online catalog. This is a plant with which I have had a personal connection for a long time. That knowledge is in every bottle I make." — Kevin

How do people experience Sananga?

There is a moment of silence just before Sananga begins. You feel the drop. And then a wave of fire, through your eyes and behind your forehead. This is the moment when most people want to blink, squeeze, or walk away. Do not. Breathe. Stay.

After the burning, the noise in your head often subsides. What remains, many people describe as silence. Not empty, but full and present. They feel clear in their head and calm in their body. That is why many people use Sananga for meditation or breathwork.

The tears are part of it. The burning lets them go. Some feel that something emotional also comes loose with it. Many people cry a lot, and afterwards feel lighter than they have in ages. Sometimes that light feeling lingers for days.

What many people experience with Sananga

  • A fierce burning for 5 to 20 minutes, with tears
  • Then silence in the head and presence in the body
  • A light feeling, as if a burden has been lifted from you
  • A calm foundation for meditation, breathwork, or ceremony

This is experience, not a promise. Everyone experiences Sananga differently. Sananga does nothing for your eyes or your vision, and is no replacement for eye care.

Who are Sananga eye drops for?

You want the real, traditional Sananga

You are not looking for a mild version. You want to experience Sananga as it is used in the Amazon.

You meditate, do breathwork, or work ceremonially

Many people use Sananga as an opening to a moment of silence. Or around a ceremony, to begin or conclude it.

You are doing it for the first time

Read the protocol below carefully. Start with 1 drop. And do not do it alone the first time: make sure someone you trust is with you.

You would rather experience it guided

Kevin is a ceremony leader. He gives Sananga in individual sessions and as part of his Kambo ceremonies. Kambo is always done after an intake and screening.

Using Sananga eye drops

Sananga requires a moment. Not much, but a conscious moment. Put down what is preoccupying you. Put on calm music if that helps. Lie down or sit comfortably. Breathe in and out deeply three times. Set an intention if you want. That is not necessary, but it helps many people.

Always take out contact lenses before you start.

Step by step

  1. Prepare yourself. Lie down, or sit upright with your head slightly tilted back. Close your eyes for a moment. Breathe in calmly through your nose and out through your mouth. Feel where you are. What do you want to let go of? What do you want to see?
  2. Squeeze your eyes lightly shut. Gently, not tightly. This keeps the corner of the eye open and brings the drop to the right place. Are you more experienced? Then you can also let the drop fall under your eyelid. Not on the eye itself.
  3. Drop into the corner of the eye. Hold the bottle above the inner corner of the eye, near your nose. Let 1 or 2 drops fall in. Your eyes are still closed. The liquid gathers quietly.
  4. Blink calmly. Open your eyes and blink a few times. The Sananga spreads. You feel the burning begin. Let it come. Breathe through it. Do not squeeze, do not rub.
  5. Stay lying down. The burning lasts 5 to 20 minutes. That varies per time and per person. Breathe consciously through your nose. Let the tears flow. Stay present. What comes up, may come.
  6. Come back calmly. Stay lying down for at least 10 minutes after the burning. Notice your body, your breath, and your thoughts. Drink water. Write down what came up. Use the calm afterwards consciously.

How many drops?

1 to 2 drops per eye. Start with 1 drop the first time. Experienced users sometimes choose 2. More is not necessary: 1 drop of this jungle strength is already substantial.

Do not use with

  • An eye infection, eye injury, or eye surgery (wait at least 3 months after surgery)
  • Use of MAO inhibitors
  • Contact lenses in: take them out and wait 30 to 60 minutes after use, until your eyes are calm
  • Pain or irritation that lasts longer than 30 minutes: rinse your eye with clean water and contact a doctor if in doubt

Storing Sananga

Our Sananga contains no preservatives. That is a conscious choice. It does require attention when storing. Fresh requires care.

In the refrigerator: 2 to 3 weeks

Put your Sananga in the refrigerator immediately after receiving it. This way it stays good for 2 to 3 weeks. Always store it in the dark dropper bottle, because light damages the substances.

In the freezer: months

Are you not using it within 2 to 3 weeks? Then freeze it immediately after receiving it. This way it stays good for months. Thaw it slowly in the refrigerator. Never in the microwave or in hot water.

Do not refreeze after thawing

With a second freezing and thawing, the quality deteriorates. Bacteria can also grow faster then. Use thawed Sananga within 2 to 3 weeks, and store it in the refrigerator.

Tip

Are you ordering more bottles? Put 1 immediately in the refrigerator and freeze the rest. This way you always have fresh Sananga at hand, without rushing.

Frequently asked questions about Sananga eye drops

What is Sananga?

Sananga is a traditional eye drop from the Amazon. It is made from the root of a Tabernaemontana shrub. The Huni Kuin call it shane tsamaite. Our Sananga is made from fresh root, with only water added.

Does it really hurt that much?

Yes, it burns. That is honest. You feel the first sensation within a few seconds. The burning lasts 5 to 20 minutes. What helps: do not squeeze, breathe calmly through your nose, and know that it is part of it. People who use Sananga more often rarely call it pain anymore. They call it an intensity they learn to embrace. Afterwards, a calm feeling often lingers, sometimes for hours.

Why do you only offer one strength?

Because we only want to be accountable for one strength: the jungle strength. This is how Sananga is used in the Amazon. You do not have to choose between mild and strong. You get what it is.

What do I need for my first time?

A calm space. The willingness to feel what comes. And the protocol on this page. Start with 1 drop. Do not do it alone the first time: make sure someone you trust is with you. Would you rather experience it guided? Ask Kevin about a Sananga session.

Can I combine Sananga with rapé or Kambo?

Sananga and rapé often go together in the tradition of the Huni Kuin. Many people experience rapé as centering and Sananga as something that opens. Sananga is also part of Kevin's Kambo ceremonies, with time and space in between. Kambo is always done after an intake and screening. Never combine Sananga with MAO inhibitors.

I wear contact lenses. Can I use Sananga?

Yes, but always take your lenses out. The liquid can damage your lens, and the lens is between the drop and your eye. Wait 30 to 60 minutes after use before putting them in again. Your eyes must be calm and the tears gone.

How do I know my Sananga is fresh?

Every batch is freshly prepared, just before shipping, or immediately frozen. Every bottle shows the batch date. Fresh Sananga smells earthy and like plants. The color is light brown to dark brown. Does it smell strange, is it cloudy, or does it have a different color? Then do not use it.
