Story

Buna Rao rapé: rare, deep and fragrant

Strength: 7 out of 7. Character: rare deep hapé, liquid dreams, ancestral.

There are places in the Amazon where the air feels different. Richer. Protected. As if the forest itself has drawn a boundary and says: here it is safe. In such places Buna Rao grows. And that atmosphere is in every bottle.

Buna Rao rapé is made by the Huni Kuin in Acre, in the Brazilian Amazon. It has strength 7 out of 7, the highest on our scale. This is not a blend to start with. It is a blend to grow towards.

What is Buna Rao?

Buna Rao is the name of a plant from the tradition of the Huni Kuin. In their lore it is called the "enchanted plant". You do not find it everywhere. It requires a certain place and the right conditions. The Huni Kuin harvest it with care, precisely because it is so rare.

This blend also contains Buna Tura. You can also find that plant in our 7 Eva's.

On other sites you sometimes see the same name written differently: Anu Buna Rau, Buna Rau or Ana Buna Rau. We stick to Buna Rao.

Open the bottle, and you will notice it immediately. The scent is warm, resinous and almost sweet. Different from all other varieties in our assortment. For many people that scent is the first thing they remember of Buna Rao.

Rapé is pronounced as "ha-pé". That is why you also see the spelling hapé. It is a fine plant powder that the Huni Kuin have traditionally used in ceremony and meditation.

How Buna Rao is made

Buna Rao is also made entirely by hand. The plants are dried, finely pounded and further pulverized by the sun. Then everything goes through a large sieve. What remains is a superfine powder. During the work, songs are sung and prayers are said.

Rapé you see elsewhere is often a bit coarser and grainier. Buna Rao is almost powdery. With a strong blend like this you notice that extra: you need very little of it.

Limited stock, honestly

Buna Rao is available in small quantities. If it is sold out, you wait for the next shipment. That is how it goes with a plant that does not grow on demand. Want to know when it is available again? Send Kevin a message.

Kevin has had a connection with a Huni Kuin village in Acre for about eight years, with daily contact via WhatsApp and video calls. The rapé comes directly from them, without intermediaries. Kevin does the final check. Then Buna Rao goes directly into a dark bottle that blocks uv-light. This way, the prayers and songs remain captured in it. Going to the village is at the top of his list.

The Huni Kuin are also called Kaxinawá. They themselves choose Huni Kuin, "the True People". So do we.

"They get the price they ask. I never haggle. And besides, a part of the proceeds goes back to the village." — Kevin

How do people experience Buna Rao?

Do you know that? You come home after a day full of people. You are tired, but not from your own things. You have picked up all sorts of things that are not yours.

Precisely then many people choose Buna Rao. They describe a clear feeling of what is theirs and what is not. As if a boundary comes around them that they themselves should have drawn. Open to what is good. Closed to what is heavy.

And then there is something that often comes up with Buna Rao: radiance. Many people say that something in them starts to shine that normally remains hidden.

On the label are three words: rare deep hapé, liquid dreams, ancestral. See those words as an image. Some experience Buna Rao as deep and dreamy, with a feeling of something old. Others mainly as clear and protected.

How many people experience Buna Rao

  • A clear feeling of your own boundary
  • A feeling of being protected
  • Radiance: showing more of yourself
  • Depth, sometimes dreamy, with a warm scent that lingers

This is experience, not a promise. Everyone experiences rapé differently.

Who is Buna Rao rapé for?

Buna Rao is for a smaller group. For that group, it is difficult to replace.

You work all day with people

As a facilitator, coach, ceremonial leader or in healthcare. You give a lot and you take in a lot. Many people in such a role use Buna Rao to come back to themselves.

You feel a lot from others

Some people are naturally open. They immediately feel the atmosphere in a room. That is a gift, and it calls for a clear boundary. Many people experience that Buna Rao supports this.

You want to show more who you are

Not as a trick, but from within. Many people experience with Buna Rao a warm radiance that truly belongs to them.

You are already experienced with rapé

Buna Rao has strength 7 out of 7. Therefore, do not start with this blend. Are you new? Start with Tsunu, Rosa or Murici. Do you already know rapé well? Then Buna Rao is a special deepening.

When do you use Buna Rao?

After a day full of people

After a hard workday, a conflict or a busy social evening. Many people use Buna Rao to shake off what is not theirs.

Before a full workday

As a morning ritual when you know that a lot is coming your way. You set a clear intention for the day.

As a closing of a ceremony

After a ceremony you are often wide open. Many ceremonial leaders then use Buna Rao to preserve that openness, with a clear boundary around it.

Together with Tsunu

First Tsunu to land and become clear. Then Buna Rao for boundary and radiance. Two steps, one moment.

"Buna Rao is my personal favorite after a hard workday. After hours of being present in intensive processes, it feels as if it puts a clear screen around me. It reminds me where I end and where the other begins. That is not a luxury. That is a necessity."

Using Buna Rao rapé

Rapé is something you work with, not something you just take. Start consciously. Buna Rao has strength 7 out of 7. Therefore, take less than you are used to with other varieties.

  • Quantity: start with as much as a pea per nostril. Build up slowly, over several moments.
  • How: you give yourself rapé with a kuripe, a V-shaped applicator. First breathe out completely.
  • Order: in the tradition you start on the left (letting go) and then on the right (receiving).
  • Then: close your eyes, breathe through your mouth and sit still for a moment. Let what comes come.
